We encourage you to take part in this special event for senior students. The students who participated last year found the day stimulating and rewarding. You can see this on display in the videos of the language specific UNAA Victoria model that were filmed last year. You will find the Italian model UN video on this link: https://fuse.education.vic.gov.au/Pages/modelunlanguages. Please watch and share the video with your students. The videos are designed to give teachers and students an understanding of how the Model UNs work and the benefits that are derived from participating in this unique learning event.
United Nations Association of Australia, Victoria (UNAAV) and the Languages Unit - Department of Education and Training invite VCE Italian students to participate in the Italian Language Model United Nations Conference being held at CO.AS.IT. on Wednesday 16 September 2020. The conference is supported by the Victorian Association of Teachers of Italian (VATI).
A UNAAV Model UN Conference simulates a full-day session of the United Nations General Assembly. The day is conducted entirely in the Italian language and through role play and debate students have the opportunity to step into the shoes of UN country ambassadors and use their negotiation and diplomacy skills to express the views of their allocated country. Students interact with other delegates during the caucus sessions, present their allocated country’s position to the General Assembly and move amendments to a Draft Resolution.
Information packs developed by UNAAV and translated by VATI for students and teachers, provide options to implement key learning areas of the VCE Italian common areas of study. This includes links to themes related to the changing world and Italian-speaking communities. This unique language immersion event is an opportunity for students to learn about international relations, the UN system and global issues in an engaging, dynamic environment, while developing their language skills.
